Septic System Tips for Connecticut Residents

Do's and Don'ts for Your Septic System:

  • Have your baffle inspected at time of your septic cleaning.
  • Pump your tank regularly.
  • Repair any dripping or leaking plumbing fixtures.
  • Divert roof drains and any surface water form away from septic system.
  • Do not run consecutive loads of laundry or dishes
  • Never go into your septic tank (toxic gasses).
  • Don’t allow anyone to drive or park on your system.
  • Do not allow backwash from any water softeners to enter the septic.

Septic Warning Signs

Heed these warning signs that indicate your onsite system may be struggling and needs service:

  • Slow draining sinks, toilets, and other drains
  • Gurgling sounds in the plumbing
  • Sewage backups in the house
  • Sewage odors in the yard
  • Ground wet or mushy underfoot
  • Sewage or standing water surfacing over the drain field (especially after storms)
  • Lush green growth over the drain field
  • Grass growing faster or greener in one particular area of the yard
